The History Of Sheffield Rangers Sheffield Rangers was founded in 1975 when Landseer Juniors and Wisewood Celtic merged to form a single club. In it's first season Sheffield Rangers JFC entered teams at under 13, under 14 and under 15 level in the Sheffield Junior Sunday League. The club started to establish itself as one of the most successful and respected junior football clubs in Sheffield and developed links with a number of football league clubs. During 1977 and 1978, 8 players from Sheffield Rangers JFC signed apprentice football forms with Lincoln City where the manager was Graham Taylor (later to become England manager) These players were the first of many from Sheffield Rangers JFC to join football league clubs with a number going on to have very successful professional careers - some of these players are featured in the Hall Of Fame section at the end of this section. By 1978 Sheffield Rangers JFC had 5 teams at different age groups in the Sheffield Junior League.
Current Day Sheffield Rangers Today Sheffield Rangers remains one of the most successful and respected junior football clubs in Sheffield and is one of only a few clubs in the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League which consistently operates a team at every age group from under 7's to under 16's inclusive. New for the 2007/8 season is an U18 team which provides a progression beyond Junior Football At the start of the 2003/04 season Sheffield Rangers introduced girls football to the club and now has 4 Girls age groups (U10, U13, U15 & U16 2007/8 season) operating in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Girls County League. During the 2003/04 season Sheffield Rangers JFC built on the already strong links with football league clubs by becoming an official development club for Sheffield Wednesday. The club also has strong links with other local football league clubs. The current academy squads at Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Rotherham United contain players who have played junior football for Sheffield Rangers JFC. In December 2006 Sheffield Rangers JFC was delighted to receive Charter Standard Club status.
The Future Of Sheffield Rangers Sheffield Rangers JFC objectives are: - For all coaches to hold a minimum qualification of FA level 1 and to implement a programme of coaching development
- To provide the best possible environment to encourage the development and enjoyment of all it's members
- To promote and uphold the FA Child Protection and Equality policies
- To continue to operate a team in the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League at every age group from under 7 to under 16 inclusive
- To continue to promote and develop girls football with additional age groups
- To introduce an under 18 team to provide progression opportunities beyond junior football for it's members
- To re-establish the coaching programme for under 5's and under 6's and develop links with local schools
